Landscape-Oriented Backs, 1913-1914

Starting in 1913 and produced as late as 1919, Congress produced 5 unique decks that were “landscape-oriented”, meaning the back designs were turned sideways instead of the traditional vertical orientation. These decks are some of the rarest and most sought-after for Congress collectors: The Bayou, Gala Day, The Forager, Evening Glow, and Golden Sunset. These decks came with the US6g ace of spades and Capitol joker.

Of the backs, Gala Day is the most commonly found. The Forager and Golden Sunset are rarer, and pop up seldomly. Evening Glow and The Bayou are easily the toughest to find.

Dates listed are based on known date codes, as there are so few decks currently in collections.
